November, 2004
November 11, 2004 - Presidents Report
Comments 3
As the year runs it course, and the leaves are falling to the ground more often than Danny Mansfield trying to con a kick off the umpire, it is a great time to reflect on the season that was 2004.
The inaugural Gooding/Kramer shield kicked off proceedings in April, and was a resounding success.

October 11, 2004 - Prose of Thanks
Thanks to all that travelled,
And the same to those that didn't.
Thanks to those that played every second,
And those that struggled to get a minute.
Thanks to all of the wives,
And those that are yet to be.
We would not be the same with out you,
It was a marvellous sight to see.

August 21, 2004 - Pirates Rule GGAFL Grand Final 2004
Comments 1
Oakland claimed the 2004 GGAFL Premiership holding off a fast-finishing San Jose to win by 21 points. The relief on coach Bryn White's face as he hoisted the Back Forty Cup after the game was obvious.
August 21, 2004 - Goof - the bridesmaid no more GGAFL 2004 Awards
Comments 1
Glen 'Goof' Gooding, club stalwart and all round good guy, was awarded the GGAFL Best and Fairest for 2004. After coming second, third and fourth too many times to count, Goof come from behind with a best on ground performance in the final round of the season to just pip Chris Edney at the line.
August 9, 2004 - Just a walk in the park...

...is not how anybody would describe the latest round of the GGAFL season 2003.
If round 5 was described as a fiery game, round 6 cannot be called anything less than a full scale military mobilization. As the pregame favorites Oakland led from the start, but could not shake a gutsy San Francisco team.
August 7, 2004 - Knights. Joust.

If you let your mind wander at Greer Park on Saturday it would not have been hard to imagine yourself at any country football match in Australia. Cars lining the boundary line, horns honking for every goal and every act of courage. A vocal crowd assisting the umpire, and some high quallity football. Brings a tear to the eye.
August 7, 2004 - San Jose buzzing.
What a game to finish the season. The winner plays next week, against Oakland, for the Back Forty Premiership Cup. Two teams with everything to play for, and their fate in their own hands.
It made for an exciting, exhilirating game. Of which I can remember very little.
August 6, 2004 - Message to the league from El Prez.

Right down to the business end of the season, and what a year it has been. A virtual semi-final this weekend, with the winner of San Jose v Marin going onto play Oakland in the Grand Final on August 21. I am very proud to announce several new sponsors that have stepped up to the plate.

July 29, 2004 - Press Release.

During the 3rd quarter of the Round 7 San Jose versus Oakland match on Jul 24 2004 a request was made by the Oakland captain to count the San Jose players on the field. San Jose was found to have one extra player on the ground.
The rules are very clear on this. The offending team has their score removed.
July 24, 2004 - Knights Day.

The penulitmate round offered everything. Marin taking on arch-rival San Francisco, where a win was necessary to keep the Maverick's final chances alive, followed by Oakland playing San Jose in an important match from a coach's point of view. Particularly a coach trying to refine a finals strategy.
July 10, 2004 - A Pirate's life for me.
Comments 3
A crash on the interstate this week saw the team buses for San Jose and San Francisco stranded in the East Bay. Several players from each club had made their own way to the ground, but without their team mates they couldn't field a complete side.
June, 2004
June 26, 2004 - Do you know the way to San Jose? I'm looking for a bandwagon.

Bright sunshine. Two teams full of expectation. Thirty-six committed players. One large field and a ball. Whoever kicks the most goals wins.
Football doesn't get any simpler than this. Nor any better.
Half TIme In a novel start to the second round of the GGAFL calender, San Jose combined with Marin to take on Oakland and San Francisco.
June 12, 2004 - Scourge of Land and Sea.
Comments 3
As the last of the spectators trudged from Ygnacio Park, weary from witnessing an epic tussle between two worthy teams, they were serenaded by the umpteenth iteration of the Pirate's victory song.
June 5, 2004 - Pirates Run Amok
Comments 2
When preparing an article of historical importance, even when that history is only in relation to a small sporting league operating in the northern reaches of a single state of a large country, it is imperative that an unbiased, impartial viewpoint is adopted.
June 5, 2004 - San Jose Buzzes With Success
Comments 2
San Jose capped off a round of upsets this week after winning their hard fought dual with San Francisco's Knights.
Although dogged with injuries and missing players, San Francisco remained favorites to take out the struggling team from Silicon Valley.
May, 2004
May 22, 2004 - Oakland Runs Aground.

To use an oft-uttered quote "A week is a long time in football". In that short space of time Oakland demonstrated how quickly you can go from chocolates to boiled lollies. Full of confidence after steam-rolling San Jose, a full-list bolstered by some pricey recruits, and facing a San Francisco line-up bereft of its goal-to-goal line.
May 8, 2004 - Mavericks Shoot Down Knights
Comments 2
The 2004 football season kicked off in fine style last weekend with the much anticipated double headers becoming a reality. Without doubt, the match of the round was the replay of last year's Grand Final between Marin and San Francisco. On a clear Saturday morning at Greer Park, the stage was set for the first big clash of the year.
May 8, 2004 - Pirates plunder San Jose
Comments 2
San Jose and Oakland played a high quality match to begin the 2004 GGAFL season at Greer Park Saturday.
In the first quarter, taking advantage of a slight breeze favouring the Amarillo Rd. end of Durrell Stadium, the Pirates started full of running. Keen to throw off the easy-beat tag of last season their attack on the ball was ferocious.
May 8, 2004 - Nick's Top 5
Comments 3
Class prevailed again, putting pay to some of those nasty rumours from last year that Marin wasn't the best team of 2003. This year looks like a long one for all other GGAFL teams. An added bonus for each Monday will be Nick's Top 5, a sort of informal Marin best and fairest. Here goes (5 = best)
5, Lancaster.

April 24, 2004 - Gooding / Kramer Shield Match

Rest-of-World 10.17 (77)
Australia 7.4 (46)
Under clear blue skies at Concord Community Park, the inaugural Anzac Day Classic for the Gooding/Kramer Shield took place. The game was played between Australia and the Rest of the World, with the ROW team bolstered by 5 ex-pats, who are in the States for the long haul.
April 24, 2004 - League Announces Official Sponsor

League president Leigh Barnes used to occasion of the Anzac Weekend festivities to announce a new sponsorship deal for the GGAFL. Security Management Group of Walnut Creek has agreed to a deal to sponsor the GGAFL and the Golden Gate 'Roos for the 2004 season.
