December 31, 2005 - Loxton News 2005 Christmas Supplement
Comments 2

Phill Watters visited from South Australia in 2005 and this article resulted in the Loxton News

October, 2005

October 4, 2005 - Leigh Barnes' 2005 Nationals Diary

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth - well sorta

Arrangements done, players all primed and ready to go, so it was Milwaukee here we come. Well, almost. But not for some. Right on the death, Rex (Murphy) and Brian (Reilly) pulled out, and Matt Falkowski came down with shaggers back, a disease common with newlyweds.

August, 2005

August 20, 2005 - Mavericks Outplay Pirates GGAFL 2005 Grand Final
Comments 1

Marin continued their regular season dominance over Oakland, winning the Masses GGAFL Premiership Cup at Ygancio Park on the weekend. Despite a spirited start in which Oakland took the game up to the Mavericks, the Pirates did not have the firepower to match Marin's big guns.

August 20, 2005 - MVP to American Duo
Comments 1

At the 2005 GGAFL awards night, Rob DeMarco and Matt Falkowski tied for first place in the MVP count. DeMarco, Marin captain, has long been one of the stand-out players in the league, and this year finally got the attention of the umpires.

July, 2005

July 23, 2005 - Knights prevail, Pirates slay Hornets.
Dublin. Whomever named this part of the Bay Area has a perverse sense of humour. Thinking of football in Dublin conjures images of a verdant sporting field nestled amongst a copse of elms.

July 9, 2005 - Mavericks blaze through Oakland.
Comments 1

A top of the table clash that had everyone nervous with anticipation. Two teams in fine form, with a full list, and a strong dislike for one another. What more could you want from a football match? A close result would be the icing on the cake.

Well, 3 out 4 aint bad.

July 9, 2005 - Hornets lose their sting.
Comments 5

A carnival atmosphere pervaded the start of the round 6 clash between San Jose and San Francisco. John Ironmonger became the first GGAFL player to reach the 100 game milestone and a huge crowd had gathered for the event, including his parents, who the league had flown in from West Australia.

July 9, 2005 - Ironmonger's Century
Massively built at 200cm and 105kg, John Ironmonger was a tap ruckman par excellence who made his league debut with East Perth in 1980, having been recruited from Margaret River.

July 9, 2005 - Big John cracks the ton
Round 6 of GGAFL sees Big John Ironmonger play his 100th game of footy on US soil. A life member of the the league, John has helped promote the game more so than anybody else and has shown his amazing administrative skills extend far beyond hosting the end of year BBQ.

June, 2005

June 5, 2005 - Denver - tournament of plenty.

Denver. According to Bruce Durrell (and reminiscent of a certain advertising campaign), is beautiful one day, perfect the next. The former president of the Santa Cruz Roos and now livewire Denver Bulldog's forward, constantly reminds me of this.

February, 2005

February 19, 2005 - Be all that you can be? - Fort Irwin Pre Season Training
Comments 1

Mention desert to Australians and they generally think of red dirt, year round heat, no rain, and freezing nights. Not so in the USA. The Roos who ventured to the US Army desert training facility in Fort Irwin were greeted with driving rain, sudden drops in temperature, and even a prediction of snow.

January, 2005

January 25, 2005 - GGAFL and AFLQ strike a deal
Comments 2

It is a great deal of pleasure that I can announce a "sister league" set up with AFLQ in Brisbane. AFLQ, formerly the QAFL, is Queensland's premier league and has the Brisbane Lions second side in the competition. AFLQ, through their business manager, Murray Bird have supplied us with a complete set of AFLQ rep.
