October, 2009

October 12, 2009 - Nationals 2009
The GGAFL returns from the 2009 Nationals tournament with 3 wins and a draw overall.

While not able to win a title this year the GGAFL performed admirably at the 2009 US Footy Nationals in Mason, Ohio over the weekend. In Division 1 the GGAFL finished third, loosing only the the eventual winners Denver.

August 29, 2009 - Marin Victorious

Marin wins Grand Final

The Marin Mavericks have added to their Premiership tally in the GGAFL by winning the 2009 Grand Final. As winners of four out of the eight GGAFL season they are the form team and continue their playing influence on the GGAFL.

Final score - Marin 13.16 - 94 San Francisco.

August 24, 2009 - Knights in to Grand Final

In a high standard, entertaining game, San Francisco played there way in to their fourth consecutive Grand Final with a strong win over a gallant Oakland outfit.

For three quarters every time San Francisco looked like kicking away the Pirates would claw back to within a couple of goals.

August 17, 2009 - Midas - The Golden Touch
Midas, Nevada is the current home of the GGAFL Anzac Cup and like the Tiwi Islands near Darwin, it is punching out of its weight class, with over 7% of the population playing in Australian Rules football in the GGAFL.


August 10, 2009 - The Finals Are Upon Us
After a pair of somewhat one sided matches last weekend the ladder is set for the GGAFL finals for 2009.

San Francisco had a good win over Marin but could not score enough to make up the percentage points required to get to first place on the ladder for 2009.

August 6, 2009 - Reports from GGAFL Round 6
Following round 6, several charges were brought forward by the match-day committee.

Bebe Etzler (San Francisco) and John Hammond (San Jose) were charged with Unnecessary Roughness. Charge withdrawn.
The Marin Mavericks were charged with Umpire Abuse. Upheld.
The Oakland Pirates were charged with Umpire Abuse. Upheld.
Aaron Bradley (Marin) was charged with Umpire Abuse. Upheld.


July, 2009

July 12, 2009 - GGAFL Roos beaten by Orange County Bombers
The GGAFL Roos were beaten by the Orange County Bomberrs on Saturday at Gellert Park Daly City.

The Bombers played well, had a good game plan and always had numbers around the ball. They moved it well with quick handball and lots of running players.

June 28, 2009 - Mavs and Knights take the points

On a day far better suited to a backyard swimming pool with a big fridge full of cold drinks close by than a football field in the middle of Concord the Marin Mavericks and the San Francisco Knights took the points on Saturday beating the San Jose Hornets and the Oakland Pirates.


June 14, 2009 - GGAFL Roos Beat the San Diego Lions
The GGAFL Roos beat the San Diego Lions in San Diego on Saturday. With a nine goal lead at three quarter time the Roos let themselves down with their last quarter effort by only kicking one goal and letting San Diego score five, but still came away with a 4 goal win.

May 10, 2009 - What a weekend

Finally the 2009 GGAFL Season got started after the first ever rain out of games last week. To start the season, Marin 18-18 126 were big winners over San Jose 2-5 17 and San Francisco 18-4 112 defeated Oakland 11-10 76.

Luke Quirk commented after the days football "It was great to start the season with two full games.

May 7, 2009 - Andrew Davies - Where is he now?

Andrew Davies played for the Oakland Pirates in the GGAFL competition from the start of the 2002 season to the end of the 2005 season. In his four years as a Pirate he notched up 52 games and was a member of the 2005 Division 2 Nationals Championship team.

April, 2009

April 27, 2009 - ANZAC Cup 2009. Aussie Diggers have a narrow win.
In a proud tradition Australians, New Zealanders, Turks and other nations celebrated the 96th year of the allied forces landing at Gallipoli, Turkey during WWI with a dawn service at ANZAC Cove on the Gallipoli penninsula..


April 7, 2009 - Chris Hack.- Where is he now?

Chris Hack or "Hacky" as he was known to us all, played 3 seasons in the GGAFL from 2002 to 2004. As an inaugural member of the Golden Gate Australian Football League, Hacky helped to get the competition established.
During his time in the GGAFL Hacky kicked 9 goals.

March 27, 2009 - Glen Gooding - Where is he now

Glen Gooding played in the inaugural Santa Cruz Tigers team in the 1998 ANZAC Cup. He played most games with the Santa Cruz Tigers/Roos between the start of 1998 till the end of 2001 and then played in the inaugural GGAFL game in April 2002 playing in the GGAFL and for the Golden Gate Roos though 2005.

March 20, 2009 - Geoff Edwards - Where Is He Now?

Geoff Edwards spent two years with the Golden Gate Australian Football League in 2002 and 2003. He was part of the first GGAFL game at the beginning of 2002, the leading Goal Scorer in 2002 and the MVP in the 2002 Grand Final. What is Geoff up to these days? He had this to say in a recent interview.


March 19, 2009 - The 2009 Season Approaches
The GGAFL is steadily making arrangements for the 2009 season. The schedule has been organized and grounds reserved. Preliminary plans are even being created for the Nationals Tournament in Mason, Ohio on October.

The first game is approaching rapidly. This year the ANZAC Cup game is actually on ANZAC Day.

March 18, 2009 - Website Updates Completed

An updated version of the GGAFL Website has been released. While there are not a lot of really obvious visible changes in the site when you first land on it, there are many changes to the way it works.
